What is “Dry Eye Disease”?

In Australia alone, it is estimated that over 4 million people suffer with dry eye disease and the number is on the rise.

Dry Eye Disease is an inflammatory disease and if left untreated will get progressively worse over time. Symptoms and discomfort can worsen with damaging results to the eyeball.

  • • Itchy sore eyes
    • Red eyes
    • Watery eyes
    • Sore eyes when using a computer for extended periods
    • Stinging, scratchy or burning eyes
    • Blurred vision
    • Feeling that something is in your eyes
    • Sensitivity to light
    • Difficulty wearing contact lenses
    • Struggling with night driving

If you experience any of the above symptoms, you may be suffering with Dry Eye Disease (DED). Dry Eye is caused by many factors and is an inflammatory disease. The tears are disrupted, become unstable and result in discomfort and vision disturbances. Dry Eye leads to damage to the surface of the eyes and is more common with increasing age. It is also seen in younger people due to increased use of screens (computer, mobile phones, and other devices). Children as young as 10 have been diagnosed with Dry Eye Disease.

As Dry Eye is a chronic and progressive condition, early diagnosis and treatment is key. The longer it is left unaddressed, the harder it is to treat. Preventative care is also now possible with new technology.

Eye drops are a temporary solution but do not fix the root cause of the problem.

At Dry Eye Solution we address the root cause of the problem - the inflammation - using a multi-faceted approach; including a Lumenis Optima IPL (Intense Pulse Light), which is the only IPL with FDA & TGA approval for Dry Eye treatment. We are proud to offer the only Lumenis IPL on the Central Coast.

What is the process?

Our dedicated optometrists conduct comprehensive 45-minute Dry Eye Assessments to diagnose your symptoms accurately using state-of-the-art technology.

Upon diagnosis, we tailor a personalised Dry Eye treatment plan to address your unique symptoms and requirements. Our goal is to restore your eye health, providing relief from Dry Eye symptoms.

At Dry Eye Solution, we utilise Lumenis IPL, the only IPL device trusted with both TGA & FDA approval for treatment of Dry Eye Disease, to proved long-lasting relief. Our treatments typically last 45 minutes, and there's no downtime involved.

If you score 13 or higher, you will need a Dry Eye Assessment and treatment. As Dry Eye disease is a progressive disease, it becomes harder to treat if left unaddressed. The higher your score, the further DED has already progressed and can lead to damage of your cornea, blurred vision, sore eyes, and worsening symptoms.
